The Southern California Timing Association (S.C.T.A) has governed the rules of land speed racing at the infamous El Mirage dry lake bed and Bonneville salt flats beds since the late '30s.

 

Every year the organization holds two events in Bonneville and six in El Mirage, where seasoned and rookie drivers alike turn out with their custom builds in an attempt to break personal, club and world speed records.

Located in the Mojave Desert, El Mirage is a perfectly-flat lake bed that extends for miles in all directions, making it a perfect site for off-road motor sports, but it's also one of the few places in the U.S. where amateur and independent drivers have tested the true limits of their engines and abilities for the last half century.
